Venicile Vyapari Movie Review

Venicile Vyapari ,directed by Comedy Hit maker Shafi ,starring Mammootty hit theatres on 16th December.The movie is typical Mammootty movie ,stuffed with equal proportions of comedy ,action and drama.This is the fourth film of screen writer James Albert after Classmates, Cycle and Ividam Swargamanu and the first time he is writing the script for a Mammootty.As it's name ,the movie's plot unfolds in Alappuzha ,a town known as the Venice of the East.The movie title is inspired by famous play 'The Merchan of Venice ' by Shakespeare and follows a murder mystery.

The story of the movies goes back to 80's ,giving retro feeling of typical 80's livelihood.The movie revolves around Pavithran (Played by Mammootty ) who lost his parents early in his childhood.He enters the police force by chance and services as Constable.He lands up in Alapuzha to investigate the murder case of a union leader ,Ajayan (played Biju Menon ).Pavithran concedes his identity as Police and lives incognito as merchant.Eventually Pavithran gets in company with interesting characters.

The story takes its turning as Pavithran progresses through his mission to reveal the truth.Suspicion ends up in two feudal traders ,played by Vijayaraghavan (Father) and Suresh Krishna (Son)and another character played by Sreeraman.During this period, he meets and befriends Lakshmi (Poonam Bajwa), who is the manager of a local bank.

Kavya Madhavan plays female lead as Ammu ,the sister of Ajayan.She is a social worker and leader of the union of coir workers with whom Pavithran is secretly in love.Kavya's role in the movie is significant as her character doesnt contribute to course of movie flow. Other Supporting cast includes cliche roles of Jagati sreekumar ,Salim Kumar and Salim Kumar to add humour to the movie plot.

You could feel retro of 80's fashion with Mammootty wearing knee-length shorts ,bell bottom pants and long collared shirts.He dons the period costumes, wearing khakki trousers and tall cap.The songs are average except remix of the song "Kannum Kannum" which is cheering one.But the movie seems failed to provide viewers a new visual experience ,as several plots seems to be borrowed from other films.

Overall ,Venicile Vyapari is an average film ,failed to meet expectations to be another super hit from Shafi and Mammootty Combination.It is an one time watchable movie !!
