Lionel Messi wins FIFA player of year award 2011 ( Golden Ball Award Messi wins FIFA Ballon- d'Or 2011 award (World Player of Year award) -Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola wins best coach's award

Lionel Mess wins FIFA player of year award 2011

Football legend Lionel Messi has been crowned the World player award (Golden Ball Award ) at the FIFA Ballon d'Or gala for the third time in a row. The Argentina and Barcelona forward Messi pipped team-mate Xavi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo to grab most coveted title.


Real Madrid's Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo was second in the vote for the 2011 FIFA Ballon D'Or and Xavi third. 

Overwhelmed with joy ,Messi  said ,receiving the trophy from Ronaldo (Another three-time winner ) "It's a huge pleasure for me, and "It's the third time I get this award, and it's a huge honor."

Messi scored 55 goals in 2011 for Barcelona, 4 goals for Argentina's national team.He has been key player behind Barcelona's journey of victory.Messi led his Spanish team to win the Champions League, La Liga and Club World Cup.

Messi received 47.88 percent of the points in votes,leaving behind  Cristiano Ronaldo with 21.6 percent and Xavi with 9.23 percent.votes were made by national team coaches,captains and selected reporters. 


Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola won the coach's award getting over Manchester United's Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho of Real Madrid.He was awarded for guiding Barcelona to five trophies including the Champions League, Spanish and Club World Cup.

Ferguson was awarded the FIFA presidential award for outstanding service to the sport.

In women's category ,Homare Sawa of Japan grabbed best player award overthrowing Brazilian forward Marta's five-year reign as the top player.Norio Sasaki won the award for best coach of a women's team.
